Originally appearing in Crosby Gaigeā€™s Cocktail Guide andĀ Ladies Companion in 1941, the Fancy Free started as aĀ shaken cocktail. Over time itā€™s become stirred and hasĀ replaced the sugar or simple syrup component withĀ maraschino cherry liqueur.

Ingredients

2 oz HIRSCH Whiskey
Ā½ oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
3 dashes of Angostura Aromatic Bitters
2 dashes of Orange Bitters by Angostura

Directions

Combine bourbon, maraschino liqueur, orange bitters, and Angostura bitters in a mixing glass, and stir until well diluted.

Using a strainer, pour the contents into a rocks glassĀ filled with ice or a single large ice cube.Ā Garnish with a flamed orange twist, if desired. ServeĀ cold.
