At Western Reserve Distillers we were having fun with secondary finishes, so we decided to take our Straight Rye Whiskey and finish it in Caribbean Rum Casks. We’re so happy we did!
It is bright gold in color but rich in flavor and has all the markers of a straight rye whiskey with beautiful playful spiciness. The rum cask adds a sweetness that transforms the anise, fennel and licorice notes of the rye into something closer to sarsaparilla or root beer. The long finish warms the whole mouth and throat with a light but velvety feeling.
TASTING NOTES:
NOSE: green peppercorn, rye grassiness, sarsaparilla/root beer
PALATE: sweet, velvety texture, sarsaparilla/root beer, mild rye spice
FINISH: fresh grapefruit zest, medium body with a long finish that warms the whole mouth and throat with a light but velvety feeling.
